FAQ
Personal training questions, answered honestly
Everything people usually ask before they book — getting started, in-home vs. online, what results look like, pricing, and policies. If your question isn't here, email me.
Getting started
What happens at the free consultation?
A relaxed 20-minute conversation, by video or at your home. I ask about your goal, your history with exercise, any injuries or health conditions, your schedule, and where you'd like to train. You ask me anything you want. If I think I'm not the right fit, I'll say so and point you somewhere better. There's no pressure and nothing to sign. Book one here.
I've never worked out. Can I still hire a personal trainer?
Yes — beginners are who benefit most. Your first session is a movement assessment, not a test. Every exercise has an easier version, sessions are private, and we progress at your pace. See beginner fitness coaching.
Do I need to be in shape before I start?
No. Getting in shape is what the sessions are for. Start where you are.
What does a first session look like?
We talk through your goal and history, then I watch how you move — sit and stand, reach, balance, get down to the floor and up. We finish with a gentle introduction to two or three exercises so you know what sessions will feel like. Nobody has been sore for three days after a first session with me. Full details on how it works.
Do I need to talk to my doctor first?
If you have a health condition (heart, blood pressure, diabetes, joint problems), are pregnant or postpartum, or are recovering from an injury, yes — please check with your physician and bring their guidance to our consultation. I'm a personal trainer, not a medical provider, and I work within whatever limits your doctor sets.
In-home, outdoor & online
Do you really come to my house?
Yes. In-home means your living room, garage, backyard, or apartment. I bring adjustable dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, a mat, and sliders. You need a clear space about the size of a yoga mat. See in-home personal training.
Which areas do you serve?
Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, and Carrollton, plus nearby North Dallas neighborhoods. If you're slightly outside those cities, ask — a standing weekly time often makes it work. Online coaching is available anywhere. See all service areas.
Do you train outdoors?
Yes, mainly October through May when North Texas weather cooperates. Each of my service area pages lists verified public parks where sessions work well — for example Oak Point Park and Arbor Hills in Plano, or Bonnie Wenk Park in McKinney. Summer sessions move to early morning or indoors; I don't train outdoors in dangerous heat.
How does online coaching work?
After a video consultation and a filmed movement screen, I write a program for your equipment and schedule. You log workouts in a simple app, send a short check-in every week, and get specific adjustments back. Depending on the plan we also meet on video for live coached sessions, and you can message me anytime. See online coaching.
Can I mix in-home and online?
Yes, and many clients do: one in-home session a week for hands-on coaching plus online programming for a second workout on their own. If you're traveling or can't have me over one week, we can also switch a single session to video.
Do I need equipment?
No. For in-home sessions I bring everything. For online coaching I program around whatever you have, including nothing. If you decide to invest later, resistance bands, one or two kettlebells, and adjustable dumbbells cover almost everything — I'll tell you what sizes when we get there.
Training & results
How often should I train with you?
Two coached sessions a week is the sweet spot for most people, and it matches federal guidelines calling for muscle-strengthening activity at least two days a week. Beginners should stick with two for at least eight weeks; once technique is solid, one coached session plus solo workouts works well. More on how often to work with a trainer.
How long is a session?
45 or 60 minutes. A well-planned 45-minute session covers everything for most people and fits early mornings; 60 minutes allows more warm-up, mobility, and coaching.
Will strength training make me bulky?
No. Building a lot of muscle takes years of deliberate heavy training and a lot of food. Two or three sessions a week produces a firmer, stronger, more athletic look — which is what 'toned' actually means. See strength training.
How much weight will I lose?
I won't promise a number, because honest coaches can't. Sustainable fat loss depends on your starting point, nutrition, sleep, and consistency. We track the four-week trend on the scale plus strength, measurements, energy, and how clothes fit, so you can see progress in weeks when the scale doesn't move. See weight-loss coaching.
Do you give meal plans?
No. I'm a personal trainer, not a registered dietitian, so I don't prescribe diets or meal plans. I coach practical nutrition habits — protein at breakfast, planning for the evening, handling restaurants — one at a time, and I'll refer you to a dietitian if you need medical nutrition therapy.
Will I be sore?
Mildly, in the first week or two, mostly in your legs. It fades as your body adapts. Being unable to walk the next day is a sign of bad coaching, not good work. Sharp or joint pain is never normal — tell me and we adjust.
Do you work with people over 50?
Yes, and it's some of my favorite coaching. Strength training helps maintain muscle, bone density, balance, and independence as you age. We start light, focus on form, and progress at your pace. Check with your physician first if you have any health conditions.
Pricing & policies
How much does personal training cost?
In-home sessions are priced per session with lower rates for weekly packages; online coaching is a flat monthly fee. I walk through the options at your free consultation so you know exactly what training would cost for your goal. See the pricing page for what affects cost, and the blog for Dallas-area market ranges.
What's your cancellation policy?
We agree on a rescheduling policy at your consultation and I put it in writing before you commit to anything. When a week falls apart, switching an in-home session to video is usually the first option, so you don't lose the momentum.
How do I contact you?
Email hello@fitwithmeghan.com or use the contact form. I reply within one business day. I don't publish a phone number — email and the form are the fastest ways to reach me.
Not medical advice. The information on this page is educational. Talk with your physician before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have a health condition, are pregnant or postpartum, or have an injury.
